Troops as TheseSuch Troops As These: The Genius and Leadership of Confederate General Stonewall Jackson
Bevin Alexander
Hardcover; 332 pages
Berkley (2014)

Such Troops As These is an analysis of Stonewall Jackson’s performance as a general during the Civil War that is as emphatically hostile toward Robert E. Lee as it is supportive of Jackson. The overarching theme of the book is author Bevin Alexander’s assertion that incompetent Confederate leadership, particularly Lee’s, prevented Jackson from winning the war for the South. Although engaging, the narrative freely benefits from hindsight and is unabashedly pro-Jackson in all circumstances.
